The Western coast of Australia has a number of gems like the city of Perth. One of the best suburbs in Perth is the city of Fremantle, also called Freo. Fremantle is not your average suburb and the city’s residents swear by the perks of living here. Let us take a look at some of them.

Pristine sand beaches just minutes away

Fremantle is a harbor town. This means wherever you are in Fremantle, you are never more than a few minutes away from the beach. The most famous beach here is the South Beach, a beautiful stretch of white sand which is bordered by turquoise blue ocean water. If you don’t want to walk, you can rent a bicycle in the city. Other good beaches here are Bather’s beach, Leighton, River beach and Port beach.

Wonderful weather

Australia generally has good weather, but Western Australia has the best of it. If you are planning a visit to the beach or an outdoor picnic in Fremantle, you don’t have to double check with the weather bureau!

Great outdoor experiences

Freo’s main street is called Cappucino Street and you can guess why. Every second shop on this street is a coffee shop. Freo also has a great outdoor breakfast culture and almost everyone goes out for breakfast, once a week at least. The city also has a large number of bars, restaurants, breweries, nightclubs and book stores which means there is a real Bohemian vibe here.

Traveling is easy in Fremantle

Fremantle is connected by train to Perth and other places on the coast. The trains are very frequent and you can reach Perth in as little as 20 minutes. There’s even a train a 2 am and another one at 4 am, if you fancy a trip into town at night for a party but still want to get back.

Weekend markets for great shopping

Another big draw in Fremantle is the weekend market (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). The weekend markets stock a wide variety of goods ranging from fruit, vegetables, souvenirs and clothing. The prices are very low at these markets, especially for the fruits and vegetables (as low as $1 on some tables).

The area outside the market building has been designated for street performances. On weekends, you can catch magicians, musicians and a variety of other acts here.

Fremantle also has a homegrown foot ball team- the Fremantle Dockers. So if you are a football fan, you are now assured of some football action. If you shift to Fremantle, you can be sure that you won’t be bored!
